New Year's Day Beach Batucada @ Ocean Beach
A moody sunset and rough surf can make sunset over Ocean Beach incredibly beautiful this time of year. And the samba can really get rolling, too. Let's welcome in the New Year with a boom. I'm happy to announce the annual samba batucada on New Year's Day.
It's a Rio de Janeiro tradition to honor Yemanja on New Year's, so you might consider this our annual offering to the goddess of the sea.
The event is not affiliated with a samba school or any commercial organization -- anybody who wants to play, dance, or otherwise enjoy the day is encourage to come. Details are the just about the same as last year and updated below.
In the case of intermittent rain we die-hards will probably be there to play anyway. In the case of all-out monsoon, we'll throw in the towel.
My first experience actually playing samba was at this event several years ago, so I particularly encourage novices to come out and give the surdo or another instrument a try. (Just heed whoever happens to be leading the group at the moment, and follow a better player as best you can.)
If you play a melodic instrument that can be heard above the din of the bateria (or want to bring an amplified guitar/cav/whatever) please come out and give us a samba melody or two.
Where: Across the street from the Beach Chalet Brewery. We play
next to the sea wall (our wind break and acoustic reflector) that separates the beach from the parking lot -- map at

When: 2:30 pm January 1, 2006
Who: sambistas -- musicians, dancers, enthusiasts of any kind!
Please forward this to anyone who might be interested.
Tudo de bom,
Eric
